FINAL EXAM—SEMESTER 2--- Pilgrimage Journal

MEDIEVAL LITERATURE/BOOKS

1. Go to your next stop.

2. Go to this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Medieval_literature and explore books that were written in the medieval period. Then, pick a book you find interesting from the synopsis and write the name of this book in your answer.

3. Then find a location at your stop that you are visiting (like a historical landmark, garden, church/temple, library, etc) and write an entry in which you find the book you like from the above site. Where do you find it? What do you do with it? (be specific and use your imagination—your discussion should be several paragraphs).

1. You have made it to your final destination (phew!).
2. Please summarize what you did to get from the last stop (medieval books) to your final destination…this could include having to cut your trip short in order to get there.
3. Do some mild research on your final destination. You will need to bring a minimum of three pics from your place to the final exam.
1. one pic showing physical geography
2. one pic showing historical landmarks
3. one pic showing a spiritual/religious place of interest (temple, shrine, mosque, etc)

4. Attach and label pics to your journal. Provide an explanation about what you did while you were at your final destination. What have you learned while on your journey?

Please bring this page, plus your journal and any other item you need to complete your entries, to the exam.

You *may* complete the Medieval Books entry at home, but the final stop entry should not be completed until the exam time.

PJ #10-- Finding the Mystery Postcard

1. Go to your next stop in your PJ.

2. Describe what you find at your next stop (this means you must look it up) in one paragraph (pictures optional).

3. At this stop you get a mystery postcard. Please describe how you react to getting this postcard and then write down the country/ies you think it might be.

4. Somehow attach the postcard in your PJ with an envelope or some other method that allows me to view both sides of the postcard.

Final Exam Question #1

There will only be two questions for your final. Here is the first question:

PJ #8—GARDENS OF THE WORLD

• Go to your next stop.
• Locate a natural garden/forest/park at your stop that has been set aside for citizens to visit for pleasure.
• Describe the place and make sure you include at least one picture of it.
• How is this place similar/different to a traditional Japanese garden? (If you happen to be IN Japan, then find a place that is special, but is NOT a traditional Japanese garden.)

(1 page minimum excluding the photographs)

FINAL EXAM INFO

• The final exam for semester 1 will be open note/open book.
• All questions will be related to the pilgrimage journal. Some questions will require you to think about cultures we have already studied, and some questions will make you look for new information.
• You will receive all questions ahead of time and may prepare the questions as I explain in class.
  
• This means that study time is low, prep time might be about 2 hours max.
  

PJ#7-- Silk Road Merchant

1. Go to your next stop on your map.

2. For that place, please find 3 pictures showing any major geographical features (landmarks, landforms, etc). Paste/Label them in your PJ.

3. Find a historical building from that place (church, mosque, government building, palace, etc) and paste a picture of it in your PJ (label please).

4. Write a journal entry about your new stop. Do you like it? What do you like about it? why?

5. Write another entry in which you are in the historical building (sightseeing) when you happen to run into a merchant from the Silk Road in China. This merchant thinks that it is still around 500 CE. What do you tell him? What does he tell you? Describe the meeting and discussion.

NOTE: YOU ONLY NEED TO START THIS TONIGHT-- WE WILL WORK ON IT IN CLASS TOMORROW.

PJ # 6- Meeting a Hindu/Buddhist traveler

You are at your first stop getting ready to move on to your next stop when you meet a Hindu or Buddhist traveler. Answer the following prompts within a narrative journal entry. You MAY use imagination, but this entry will be graded on how accurate you are in discussing the traveler and what you talk about.

a. Describe where you meet the traveler (cafe, library, historical landmark, mountain pass, etc)?
b. Make sure you state which religion they are...
c. Describe the conversation you have (which needs to include details about the religion-- your choice).

Be imaginative! You may talk as if it is the past (ancient-medieval world) or present (now), but you may not talk as if it is the future.

PJ #5-- The Journey Begins!

And we're off!

1. This is for your first stop.

2. Describe what your first stop is like using the FIVE THEMES of GEOGRAPHY. You must have a picture for each theme and an explanation as to why each picture works for each theme.

3. Discuss what you found intriguing/interesting/exciting about this first stop.

DUE: You should have completed 3 out of 5 pictures/explanations by tomorrow...the rest will be due on Wednesday.

Make sure it has a PICTURE of a place within your Final destination and it has a title like -- THE JOURNEY OF ______ or MY TRAVEL TO _______.

PJ # 3-- Mapping The Journey

Finish making the map of your journey.

Paste/tape it into your journal.

DUE: Tomorrow.

So look up some of the places that interest you from the list below and look them up on wikipedia or another encyclopedia to get some idea of the place. Then write your top 5 destinations in your pilgrimage journal. Title it: PJ#2/Final Destination Top Choices.
