Cheat Sheet for Quizam

Please prep for your Ancient India Quizam by working on your cheat sheet.

The Quizam will be THIS friday (Nov. 17).

• Geography (5 Themes; features, etc)
• Mohenjodaro/Harappa (city info, etc)
• Aryan migrations (what did they bring, etc)
• Hinduism (monotheistic [1 god/many forms], caste, 4 aims/4 stages, # of followers, karma/reincarnation, ahimsa, vegetarianism, the cow, etc)
• Buddhism (nontheistic, who was the founder? what was his story? 4 Noble Truths, Eightfold Path, Mahayana/Theravada/Tibetan, Nirvana, non-violence, vegetarianism, How is it different from Hinduism?)

Weekend HW

Now that you are familiar with Hinduism and Buddhism, please explore the following link (a timeline of Indian history):

1. Click on a few hyperlinked items between the years 0-1500 CE/AD. What were some of the things going on in India at this time?

1. Please finish answering the question you began in class: What would you give everything up (family, material possessions, pets, etc) for? Why? Or conversely, why could you not do this?

2. Please read the handout you were given in class (begin on p. 205-- Buddhism).

3. In your spirals, complete the following tasks:

A) Critical Thinking question # 3 on page 208 of handout (Compare/contrast)
B) What do YOU think makes a person both free AND happy? Why?
C) How is Buddhism DIFFERENT from Hinduism?

I gave you the wrong number of how many Hindus there are in the world today-- there are closer to 1 billion Hindus today! (Tomorrow I will update your list of numbers-- as population grows so does the number of people in the various religions)

1. Read the handout from The Upanishads very closely.

2. Paraphrase each paragraph (in your own words) in the blank space next to the paragraph.

3. So what similarities to things you have seen/heard/believe do you notice? (You may make a list on the page or your spiral).

4. What is your overall impression of the readings? (like/dislike/cool/etc) Full paragraph answer or more please.

3. Print/copy 5 photos that you found very interesting/intriguing or surprising.

4. Paste/tape them into your spirals and please explain in a paragraph beneath each photo what it is and why you found it interesting/intriguing, etc.
